New personal injury attorney joins Chain | Cohn | Clark

Chain | Cohn | Clark, the Bakersfield-based accident, injury and workers’ compensation law firm, has welcomed a new lawyer to its team.

Doug Fitz-Simmons has joined the personal injury department as an associate attorney, where he is focusing on car accident, wrongful death, elder abuse and neglect, and other injury and accident cases. He joins an experienced personal injury department that includes partners David Cohn, and Matt Clark, and associate attorneys Chad Boyles and Tanya Alsheikh. Other attorneys on the law firm’s team, who are in the workers’ compensation department, are partner James Yoro and associate attorney Beatriz Trejo.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this team,” Fitz-Simmons said. “I think all of the attorneys and staff at Chain | Cohn | Clark provide an excellent service to injured clients here in Bakersfield and Kern County, and I’m honored to be joining this dedicated team.

Doug graduated from Westmont College, and attended law school at Pepperdine University. He’s originally from Phoenix, AZ.

He has more than 25 years of experience working in insurance defense as a trial lawyer, and has tried more than 100 cases in front of jury. He worked for 17 years with Allstate Insurance and another 8 years at State Farm Insurance. This experience and deep understanding of the inner workings of insurance companies gives our injured clients an upper hand. And for his work, Doug has been awarded an “attorney of the year” honor for trial excellence out of 40 trial attorneys in a previous law firm.

“I’ve been working with claims departments for decades. I know how they evaluate their cases. I know the things they look for as far as making a determination on what type of an offer to make,” Fitz-Simmons said. “I think I bring a lot of valuable experience to Chain | Cohn | Clark, and the injured clients we represent.”

Out of the office, Doug is involved with a human needs group that feeds the homeless community.

Doug sat down with Scope Studios to share his story on his life as an attorney, and why he decided to change from a defense attorney to one who fights on behalf of injured clients.
